July 2011 ToH Feedback Thread - Former-GM-Circe - 07-30-2011 08:19 AM

Run Time: Just under 4 hours
First time Circe ToH hosting



Note: If you post feedback, I request you also post the class and level of the character you completed ToH with.


Monsters:
  • Hazia (Custom Red Flower. Sleep, bleeding, confuse)
  • St John Wort (Custom Hermit Plant. Holy with Asp)
  • Triffid (Custom Geo. Poisons lots.)
  • Sapient Pearwood (Custom Ancient Mimic. Defender)
  • Audrey Jr. (Custom Musc. Summoned Martins named Orin EPD, Pnue, Shield breaking)

The skills listed above are just the main focal points of each mob, not a complete outline.
Thank you to Glyph for his fleshing out of my ideas and wants ont he mobs. :D

Trivia:
  • How many gold do Decorative Bells require? (3/three. 5 seconds)

Personal Circe thoughts:

I was aiming in only allowing 60% of people to get over 70 points. I failed this hard. Icon_sad

Monster Trial:
Overall, pretty balanced. Phases 2 and 4 were designed to give snipers difficulty, and they seemed to have succeeded. Congrats to those of you who passed them.

Phase 5 could have done with a buff. Perhaps having her skills activate at a higher health %.

Overall, good.
Less QQ, more pewpew though.



Item Trial:
Too easy. I think 20 minutes instead of 25 would have but it spot on pretty balanced.
Usually there's about 50% more players (20-30 more), so perhaps it'd be an okay list for a good server timeslot, as the less mobs available would have made it harder.

This part made me sad, but I'll learn to make it harder. :D


Trivia:
Fun. These are supposed to be bonus points, and I believe they served their purpose.
Only one person getting the Emmy question right made my day.
Some people getting the Thanatos one made me happy. <3 you lorers!


Now, for the fun part.
I doubt anyone noticed, but the trivia question weren't just random.

I didn't even bother to come, I was out by 2ish, but glad the other half of the world had an easy time slot for once.

I really liked the 2nd monter in monster trial, don't know if was an original ideia or not, but a monster with holy property that cast aspercio on your enemys sounds very smart to me. Nice ToH Circe Icon_smile

Monsters was hard to kill but at least escapable. 5th was... funny O.o

Items was not that easy, but not hard. Hard monsters + easy items seem fair to me.
Ending of 1st round of mass battle made my day.
Overall - good ToH. I'd like to see more in future Icon_biggrin

2nd phase was REALLY AWESOME. It is an encounter that is TRICKY yet doable.

One thing I didn't like was Phase 4 being IMPOSSIBLE for snipers. Making things tricky (like P2) is alright but making things impossible = baaaaaad.

Reason why its impossible
240k hp in under 120 seconds

Even with FA build, we'll be doing 7k FA every 3 seconds, this sounds alright.. so under 120 seconds you'll be able to do 280k damage, that is enough.

HOWEVER, throwing in the math.. that means you have only 18 seconds to walk. This isn't really feasible lol.

The point I'm trying to make is that it would be alright if you make things hard/cheesy(P2 reference) as long as it isn't impossible.

Its not fun when the only choice is to run away instead of having the option of staying and fighting.

I'm totally fine with doing things tricky, but turn in math sometimes to make it possible at least. Otherwise i demand same impossibilities on other waves for melee and magic fighters. Anyway.

Monster:
Wave 1: Was like "Omgomgomg! What will be there? *_*"... Disappointed hard.
Wave 2: If you meant to do it hard, you succeeded imo. But it was only fun mob throughout all monster trial. MOAR PLEASE.
Wave 3: Should've been pretty hard for melee fighters... But yet not impossible.
Wave 4: That was a very evil thing to do. We could beat defender AND 80k HP, but not all above with Ethereal Coat >.>
Wave 5: I just lol'd at entrance. Good thing i didn't do a stupid thing trying to tank summons. SS is so much <3

Item trial:
Did it under 20 minutes, was plotting evil plans with Circe rest of the time. If she'll make it... beware.

Trivia:
I was already half-asleep and my mind resisted working. Boo me. Not a single right answer.

Mass Battle:
And i collapsed right before it started.

Speaking of which, it was fun and exciting ToH. And if you failed - It's your fault (except snipers on wave 4, that was really too much). Everything else was pretty much doable.

Now you're all just giving me ideas.

And as for Sapient Pearwood, it used Aura Blade, Two-Handed Quicken and Defender, as well as that fun Leap Attack move that Knights get. It was made to be a Time Trial Mob where you choose to stay and fight or run and just get 5 points. I think it did the job I set out to do when making it.

Though I agree with Circe that, yes, Audrey Jr. could have used a boost.

But monster trial should have varying levels of difficulty throughout the 5 rounds and compared to the last time I made the monsters I think you can all agree this was far better for a range of balance between "easy" and "hard".

I also have to agree with Circe on this part.
