Fairy Auction Suggestion - Radolf - 07-27-2013 10:32 PM

I happened to log on for the first time in a long while for the second Fairy auction and saw something regarding blind bidders.

Not entirely sure exactly how things work now but in regards to blind bidding here's my suggestion:

Change blind bidding to where the max bid the blind bidder makes is not revealed towards people attending the auction. If someone ties the blind bidder at the auction then the person attending the auction wins the bid. Yeah blind bidders could cry unfairness, but it gives an incentive to attending instead of just dumping an excessive amount of zeny into it. Also it prevents people from just increasing their bid to screw over a blind bidder and make them pay their max price when they could have otherwise gotten it for cheaper.

For blind bids, they should never be revealed unless the max is hit. This addresses the issue of price hiking as the person at auction wouldn't know how high the blind bid is and risk over-bidding vs hiking a price to a known level so that the blind bidder pays max versus something lower.

To address the at-auction vs blind bid, due to the various time restrictions of everyone who wishes to attend, some may not be able to make it but want to have an item or items from the auction. The blind bidding system is to allow for this and is not always a fool-proof method of winning an item. We also apply the first-come first server to the blind bids themselves. This means whoever bid first will get to use the current bid price. Of course, this means the blind bidder was at that bid price first so they would naturally get it.

I understand that there are things done better in person, but we must keep in mind that not everyone can attend an auction at some given times.

That addresses nothing. You should never say what the blind bidder's max is, because if you do the person there at the auction trying to raise the price could just say, "Ok I'm done." and they've completed their goal of making the blind bidder pay their max price.

On the contrary if you DIDN'T reveal their max price, they run the risk of buying something they may not want, and it's against the rules to bid on something and then retract your bid or not pay up, so they couldn't weasel out of it.

One of the GMs said what the blind bidder's max is?

Yes for the GM service, said they'd have to bid more than a certain amount to beat them.

When a Blind Bid is place, the Player remains Anonymous and there are hopes of getting the item for less than what they have stated it for.

When the Live Bidders hits the Blind Bid, they are informed in EVERY Auction, that there is a Blind Bid at that amount. Thus, they would have to bid higher in order to beat the Blind Bid.

It's been done this way in every single auction.

And there's nothing stopping people from bidding all the way up to the blind bidder's max value since they're informed when they reach it. They can just bid all the way up and then say they're done, even if they wouldn't normally have the zeny to pay for it otherwise.

That is the risk that they should take if they wont be attending the FA. They surely know how much they are willing to pay and are willing to give that much for the items, so why stop them. If you dont tell the maximum price, how can other people at FA know when to stop the bid? This is just so unfair to the other people, so my suggestion is to just stay as it were. Thanks for reading.

There's the answer to your question lyeak.

I suggest that so if people want to be mean and artificially increase an item's value, they literally pay for being a jerk.
