So i just started trying out this new Linux OS (Ubuntu 11.04) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me or give me a quick step by step as to how to run the heRO client in Ubuntu.

I have googled some guides but they refer to using the "Wine" software to remotely boot the application through older versions of windows (98, 2000, XP)

I use Windows 7 (where my heRO stuff is).

Thanks in advance! Icon_biggrin
Remotely boot? Dude, you ever play with WinE? XD
Note, my "derptop" (as I affectionately called my EEEPC that developed a hole in the middle of Windows, and has booted from an Ubuntu flashdrive ever since) died (the screen connection broke; keep meaning to open it up and see if it's something I can fix) before I could try it.

I can still access it by plugging in a monitor. Once I get heRO over, I'll post again (le gasp, double post) explaining that all you do is install WinE and run your windows copy of heRO under WinE

And remember, WINE Is Not an Emulator!

EDIT: Oh, and I think you're crossing two ways you could run it. Remotely would be a tool that remote-controls your box (hopefully through SSH) with a screen-share. That method, you're looking at a lag time of 2x+ from your normal, as it has to go from the ubuntu box to the windows box to heRO and back (in that path). Works just fine, but have fun getting your windows box *liking* that it's being remote controlled through SSH.
As for using WinE, should be a simple install and run. Might be some graphics issues maybe, and maybe some extra lag.
Okay, neighbor's wifi isn't letting me download anything...
Anyways, you should be able to just install WinE and run heRO (just copy the files off of your other box) with it. Seem to recall when I was last trying to do this, I was tunneling everything through my school's firewall, so I wasn't able to use autoconfigs or even apt-get (corkscrew only got me so far; I'm still not very experienced with Unix). Should be easy enough =P

I'm gonna assume you know how to do that, since you're already using Ubuntu XD
Well I'm actually using it as part of my job so im probably not really all that experienced, but ill try that. My main issue was that I couldnt actually locate heRO when i opened winE in ubuntu. (i think i have version 1.2?)
Ill try messing around with again with this newfangled ubuntu vernacular :O. As for now though im gonna sleep cause id need to reboot and start up using ubuntu which i dont feel like doing right now. I'll post any more questions!
Okay so i got it to run, but its doin that lag thing where liek everything moves choppy and slow like your under a hylozists illusion. any particular setting i need to take off?

oh and btw i cant connect to the server either, I can just get to the log in screen. halp pls >.<
XD the choppy lag would be Direct X runing in a non-native environment. Make sure you updated DX, and see if that helps. As for connecting to a server, I dunno. I never messed with it that much. Is your work internet unfiltered? Is it even defaulted to external transmissions (as in is it a transparent proxy)?

I still never figured out how to force RO through a tunnel without using whatever that one program was....
I've connect to the server on Windows at work before so the network must be unfiltered.

As for Direct X, I'm not entirely sure. I'd have to upgrade it on my windows side though right?
To be able to play RO under wine you'll have to set up some iptables rules to fix a known bug in wine.

here's a link that explains it: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.ph...n&iId=8370
alrighty then, I'll check it out! Thanks Vana!
oh btw, what is our servers ip address? (ex: game.euphrogame.com is euphro's server.)
