Not old people, just people in general.
I'm a teacher and I think texting and internet language is great as long as kids are still educated properly (this means Parents, school and society). I've used internet lingo and massacred every word possible, but that hasnt stopped me from writing a proper Master's paper in literature O_o
It's not technology, it's people who have nothing to do but bicker!

Civilization declines rehardless of language. It's all about the hunger for power. There were a few Major world languages and they change every few hundred years. Latin was a Major Language- Then French -Now English. In the near future, it's gonna be Chinese I think. Because the power shift will be there I believe. Not because the language is changing. The more a language changes, the better it is in fact! That means the language is alive and evolving. Has nothing to do with not being educated.
Decline of civilization is because power has become a main focus :/
