"I'll ask you once again sister," I asked trying not to nudge her again as she walked out of the front door and into the garden. "Tell me a story."

"What kind of story do you want me to tell you Mira?" she answered with a question while shielding her eyes from the blinding rays of the sun. Even though it had only been four hours past dawn, it was already shining high above the tall walls of Rachel.

She was a crusader, a title I did not really understand since it deals with exterminating demons and the like. I was a young hunter back then, found that my calling was to study animal behavior and trapping.

"You were gone for a long time sister." I said. I quietly sat down the steps of the front door and watch her caress the stem of a flower called Izidor. The petals were apparently used more as a spice rather than for display because of its very strong scent. "I have not seen you since I was twelve, surely you can tell me something from your travels?"

"If you put it that way..." she was deep in thought for a moment and then quickly replied. "Yes, I suppose I can tell you something a bard told me when I was camping in Mt. Mjolnir."

"What is it about?"

"It's about Kiel Hyre Academy before it was shut down and burnt to the ground."

"Okay, please tell me."

"But you know..." she stared at me with those endearing, clear, emerald eyes while she put one hand on her chest. "Since a bard weaved this story, it is supposed to be sung. Promise to stay silent the whole time?"

"I promise."

She then cleared her throat and looked straight up the blue sky. "Listen closely Mira, this is the story of Aliot and Alicel..."

---------------------------------------------------------

The discovery of the New World brought many things into Rune Midgarts, Arunafeltz, and the Schwarzwald Republic. Items of all classes, equipment, food, places, the people, there were a lot of new things to look into and explore or study. But in conjunction with the unearthing of these vast amount of findings, there were also some in our land that encountered a series of unfortunate events. One example was the Kiel Hyre Academy which is located deep past the wilderness of the El Mes Plateau in Juno.

Before, this was the academy where the very first great sages of the continent honed their skills and wrote books of incredible knowledge. It would also teach and make young promising scholars into wise professors that was on par with the legends of old. The school was well funded, and received positive feedback and bountiful donations from the leaders of the three neighboring kingdoms. With this, the founder, director, and deputy administrator Kiel Hyre, made sure that everyone who studied there, from students to professors, were properly accommodated and were given the best and ample resources possible. Such was the greatness of this academy that was in pursuit of the ever wondrous mystery of magic.

It was at this time though that Aliot, a boy of age fourteen, entered the realm of this magnificent paradise to study magic and to live his dream of becoming a well-known writer of the elemental attributes. Aliot was talented, not just in the arcane arts but also as a writer. On his days off as a student, he was often seen sitting underneath an acacia tree at the school's grounds trying to will a moment to give him inspiration to write poems and sonnets and short stories and the like. Truly, this boy was something exceptional.

Not for long that this exceptional talent enticed a fellow female student named Alicel. Alicel, a beautiful girl of fifteen, was from a wealthy family that had a good and stable holdings in the markets of Aldebaran. But since Alicel has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and magic, she decided to strip herself of the confines of princess-like life and study at the academy.

One evening twilight, Alicel found a small mail underneath the door to her room. This event was very unusual for her since she was not really close to any of the other students in the academy. As her heart beats rapidly inside her chest like it's going to burst, she opened the mail and found petals of witherless roses and a letter addressed to her that reads, "As the first light breaks open the calm night sky, I shall await you at the solitary acacia."

This was too much for Alicel to bear since it might have been a love letter from the person whom she admired the most. The next day, at the break of dawn, she went into the promised tree and there she saw, smiling and waving to her, Aliot. She could hardly believe what she was seeing and had nearly collapsed as Aliot stood up to hold her hand and guide her underneath the tree to sit and chat.

Since then the two best of friends studied and did all things together. From eating their favorite food to practicing spell casts. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and months turned to years. The relationship of the two stood the test of time as they grew strong together as partners. Such was the power of young love.

However, some time after the two came of age, rumors started escalating throughout the academy about the disappearance of certain talented students that were above the age of eighteen. Not bothered by this were Aliot and Alicel, for they know that nothing can keep them apart from each others' bosom than death itself and whatever it is that Verdandi sew into the threads of their fate, their love will remain the same.

---------------------------------------------------------

"Does love really blinds people?"

"Hmm...? Did you say something Mira? I am not done with the song yet."

"I was just wondering, there clearly was something that Aliot and Alicel needed to be worried about. But they still believed that they can go through everything as long as they're together?"

"Love doesn't blind people Mira, it merely gives them courage."

"Does it? I wonder..."

---------------------------------------------------------

The day of examinations arrived, another time for both of them to demonstrate how well they've been studying together and, of course, how much they inspire each other to break their limits and reach for their dreams. Ironically though, Aliot was feeling nauseous at the first day so he had to go to the infirmary to rest. Alicel was saddened at the sudden sickness of her beloved and prayed for his swift recovery. Strangely enough, Aliot did not come to the exam the next day. This worried Alicel even more so she decided to go to the infirmary to check on him. The priest in the infirmary told her that Aliot was transferred into the advanced healing ward for professionals to look into his condition and that it is out-of-bounds for students. She was heartbroken at the thought that Aliot might be in a terrible sickness that made them take him to some place that is restricted. But she could not lose focus, she knew that Aliot wouldn't want her to mope around and worry about him, he would've wanted her to top the exams and show it to him later.

Exams passed and Aliot was still nowhere to be found. Every single night in solitude Alicel prayed and cried for her beloved's safe return to her side, so they can embrace each other again, study magic again, laugh at each others' silly deeds again, and so she can hear his voice again.

One starless evening, Alicel were rereading her beloved's letters to her, every word felt like a memory, and so she could not hide away the tears that seemed to overflow from the longing that she was fated to endure. So engrossed was she on her sorrow that she didn't notice the door of her room was slightly opened, and from that, the moonlight glinted on a blade that quickly pierced the back of her head through her left eye. Blood dripped on the letters she held in her hand as raindrops slowly fell on the glass of her window that seemed to conceal the darkness that was bestowed upon the entire academy.

Alicel thought that she was dead. At least until she came to and noticed that she can only see with her right eye. Her feet were shackled and her neck was chained to the wall. It was only moments later that she noticed that her arms became heavier and that she was inside some kind of dark prison cell with nothing but a small brazier that lits up the small room. She was alone. Alone with another person.

A male student was crouched in front of her, who seemed like in severe pain, his hands were pressed against both sides of his head. Large claw-like blades slowly emerged from the student's back, blades that were crimson with blood, and one of which had a small white ball pierced into. The student started crying and uttering words no one can comprehend until he murmured, "A...li.....ce..l..."

The female student's one remaining eye burst into tears because of the love and grief she cannot let go of. She then uttered a reply to the boy, "Al...i...ot..."

Aliot and Alicel knew that they were about to face the end of their journey together as friends, partners, and lovers. They had been mutated into terrible beings of slaughter and destruction, and they were slowly losing control over their minds and bodies. Aliot could not withstand the fact that he became an abomination and nearly killed his love so he turned his back to the girl he had shared precious time with, had given all his love and affection to, and had dedicated into living his life with. Alicel was also losing the will of her body, her right arm broke out of its constraint showing a huge hand with claws as sharp as a newly tempered sword. She used all of her remaining life force to control, to stop the movement of her strong and heavy left arm that was the only one preventing her from lunging at the person in front of her. Then with a loud sound of a metal being pulled from a wall, the arm was loosed and she swung her claws at the boy's neck. However, Aliot was no more, and an abomination was the only one standing in front of her. Before she could deliver the blow, the blades at the back of the boy intercepted. It pierced her arm, her leg, her shoulder, her neck, her heart, and stabbed her multiple times. Afterwards, the blades finally let her go and dropped her on the ground. She can still feel like the arms are moving, as if wanting to go and kill any living thing that moves and that this body will surely get up with a mind that is not her own. She can only hope that no one ever dare to seek the things hidden in this academy anymore.

But what happened after that, we do not know. Only that support for the academy stopped after reports of the disappearance reached the leaders of the three neighboring kingdoms and the President of the Schwarzwald Republic ordered Kiel Hyre arrested and the academy burned.

Still because of the academy's architecture and the amount and quality of resources spent into building and maintaining it, it still stood strong today. However, it is now a dungeon that is a primary gathering spot for demons who prey on the innocent souls of children, students, and young lovers like Aliot and Alicel that are eternally trapped here forevermore.

It had been so long since the events had reached the headlines of the Midgard Times. The assassination of the Princes and King of Rune Midgard, the appearance of Satan Morroc and the subsequent destruction of the town of Morroc, as well as the liberation of the Dark Lord. Glast Heim, always a den of evil for as long as anyone could remember is even more infested, and is still spreading.

Certainly, there had been some movement in the forces of the Dark Allegiance to try to help contain these calamities, but they didn't seem to impact much, as they seemed to be more focused on keeping those damned Light siders in check, as well as their own internal power struggles.

One such dark priestess was beginning to grow weary of such news, and decided that her personal involvement was now necessary. A crimson clad priestess, with a large cruciform hat, who's pretty much infamous for pretty much being a ghost in the community, noone really knew when or where she'd pop up; was currently In the middle of nearly a dozen knightly characters approaching with their swords dragging on the ground. Their skin was a deathly green, and covered with what one could assume to be blood.

"Heal!!" Her soft voice echoed through the large, aged marble corridors, followed shortly by the "Pop!" of one of those knight's heads exploding, the body, falling to the ground shortly after before the dark magic of the area disassembled it.

"Another friend I could not recruit..." Her voice was genuinely disapointed, as she sidestepped another one's swipe at her with it's sword, promptly being grabbed by another knight and being bashed into a nearby wall.

She got taken back a bit by the shock, before brushing her faded bloody hair from her face. "I'm getting far too old for this." She grumbled in pain, knowing she'd have to keep moving to avoid the coming onslaught.

The knights stumbled and shambled towards her in pursuit, as she stopped in the middle of what appeared to be a run down dining hall of sort. She raised up a Large book in her right hand, and a bright blue light shined forth from the hand that held it. IN the left hand, she brought out beaded rosaries that seemed to resonate with the light and shine a circle on the floor before her, as the knights shambled mindlessly into it.

"All aboard the Ship of Fools. The light will burn thy flesh and purify thy spirit, readying you for the trip to the next world. May you have another chance at honor in death, and earn your way into Valhalla's embrace. I can only show you the path." She cackled slightly, Reaching into a pouch on her waist with her left hand, pulling out a different rosary, cackling slightly as the mobs were just about in her face.

"Magnus Exorcismus!!" Her voice boomed as a blinding burst of light shown from that circle that was projected on the floor. The Bodies crackled as they stood in light, trying to inch ever closer to the lady in red, as she circled around to the opposite side of the magic she brought forth. Her voice echoed through the building, most certainly alerting any other ghouls and ghosts to her presence. Five Seconds of being engulfed in the light, and the mob had been essentially vaporized.

She held her breath for a second, glancing across the room quickly, before whistling a short hymn from the Prontera church. The whistling seemed very eerie, especially in such ruined halls, but at the same time hauntingly beautiful. When she finished whistling, she said one single word before her knees gave out on her. "Magnificat!!"

Her red priestess uniform did extremely well to hide the wounds the knights had inflicted upon her. Not even she noticed how much blood she had lost thus far. She was nearly out of mana and her eyes were growing heavy. She pressed one of her arms firmly against her abdomen, and prayed the bleeding would stop shortly, or at the very least long enough for her to recover enough energy to retreat to a safe locale.

Her thoughts raced as she sat there. She could hear metallic sounds scraping on the floor in the distance, and tried to anticipate what would happen if she could not recover. She silently cursed the people who allowed the Dark Lord to be freed and made the Demons of Glast Heim even stronger than before. A horse's whinny as well as some moans reverberated through the halls. The Bleeding had seemed to have stopped for the moment. She tried to think of what the best way to handle all of the scenarios that have recently happened to cause so much mayhem and disorder. She could have sworn she saw some people walk by, but thought the dark magic of the area was causing her to hallucinate, and chose to ignore it.

She struggled for a minute to get back to her feet, before brushing off her skirt. " Clearly, there is too much evil that needs to be purged." , she muttured under her breath, before pausing and listening to the echoes in the chambers. "I need to run this idea to the church. ... Gloria Patri Saecularia...."

The lady took another deep breath looking around the room once more. She focused for a second before saying another single word. "Teleport!!"

OOC: Because I got tired of spamming other topics elsewhere with write-ups. You get stuff here all together from here for now on (unless its particularly noteworthy). This first story transpires BEFORE The Battle of Geffen on 04/22/2017
---

“Thank you for coming here to help this evening.”

“Hm, hm, hm, I’m in town anyway because any adventurer with any guts is preparing to defend good ol’ Geffen soon.”

“Lucky you that you finished those jobs you had lined up.”

“And fortunate for you or you would be out of luck with this plan of yours tonight. So, details please, how to deal with the great Ethereal Engineer?”

Ezekiel took in a deep breath. “I probably should not give him this chance, but will talk to the pompous dick and give him a offer to do this utilizing gentler methods. If not, well…” As his voice trailed off, his fingers reached into one of the many pockets within his jacket and out came a vial filled with strange, deep purple colored liquid. Little flecks of green floated within. “He will be forced out for a few days at least with this.”

Katarin looked at the vial, and identified immediately that it contained some form of poison. He wasn’t trying to kill the target, or so she assumed, but the side effects were still going to be quite unpleasant. “So, let me get this straight. This guy, your employer and ally, asked you to stop by and help him against Ostellos. The guy who, mind you, reeeeeeeeeally does have a legitimate bone to pick with the bastard spirit, have told said guy you would help him out with something tonight, and now concocted this plan to keep him from fighting for a few days? Aren’t you really going to some extremes here of your own Zeke?”

“Perhaps, but you have not seen what he looks like these past few months. He’s a mess of a man and in no position to deal with the gravity of the situation properly. He is a danger to himself, and no doubt everyone else. Since you are someone who specializes not only in intelligence gathering, but also in protecting others as a bodyguard, you are in the best person I know to implicitly understand the delicacy of this scenario.” Ezekiel then pushed the vials into one of Katarin’s hands. Once she took them, he dug around and pulled out two needles. “If you are planning to not help, best to say something now.”

“Shit, you’re serious huh?” She eyed him, testing out his resolve. When he didn’t even flinch, or move a muscle, she winced while replying, “Fine…fine. I’ll help, I’ll help. Get the needles ready for me then.”
~~~
They discussed the full operation while they waited for the full evening to set. They grabbed their supplies and tightly clasped one of their hands into the other’s before starting their walk. This brought the rogue duo each their own moment of nostalgia. They were partners in crime for this one night at least as they walked towards the ‘target’s’ home. Katarin went close to the wall, but not too close as to lean upon it, as she was warned about the magical alarms that scattered all along and inside the home. Ezekiel’s job was to coax the one they called “Ethereal Engineer” out the door. A hand almost began to knock, hesitating before reaching the door. A single utterance was made, “Gods help me for my foolishness,” and then finally his hand rapped upon the door.
Ezekiel could hear a figure making his way down the hall bumbling about. Most likely a sign that the inventor inside had not been keeping the place tidy at all, but only the man and pet inside would know for how long. However, the rogue waited, and eventually out came the owner of the home. It was just as Ezekiel thought, Aaronock looked terrible. The tall man’s naturally wild flowing hair had turned frazzled and unkempt. Dark black circles surrounded his eyes, and his normally cheerful demeanor had been replaced with a devil’s smile.
“Glad you’re here, y’know I finished crafting this new design for a compact machine that will melt Ostellos in two…want to come inside and see it? I got the best test dummy to show it off with, we can drink tea over it even and laugh at how amazing it is.”
Ezekiel almost replied with, ‘You have got to be kidding me,’ yet somehow the following was said instead with a straight grin, “Sounds like you have been busy, how can you be sure it is ready…?”
A scoff came from the taller figure, “Testing of course, come on, let’s go inside so you can see.”
“That is not exactly what I mean. Are you sure you want to melt the body Ostellos currently resides within? The spirit stole another’s body, do you not have any sympathy or respect towards them? No one suggested the same happen to you a few years ago.”
“You, you came out here to tell me that?” Aaron raised his voice higher now. “I wouldn’t blame anyone wanting to do the same to me back then. My moment of weakness has created a cost that can never be repaid! People still have suffered because of Muspelheim’s existence!” The ethereal engineer approached Ezekiel, his six feet three inches hunching over the rogue’s five and seven inches. Ezekiel was forced to take a step back or be eye to eye with a mage. That position wouldn’t favor the rogue, so he took a defensive stance, one ready to react in a moment’s notice.
Katarin was trying her best to keep still, she had to await the signal from her old partner. At this point she was beginning to view for herself Ezekiel’s perspective mentioned a couple hours earlier. She was not particularly well acquainted with Aaronock, but she had spoken with him briefly a few times before, this man who now spoke was still eloquent in his speech, but a vicious tone now followed with it.
A squeal came from the hallway inside. It came from Cream, the impervious little Drops. “A-ah-ah-ron, what are you doing!!!!” However, this cry came too late and Aaron with surprising speed despite the temperament his body displayed had grabbed Ezekiel’s arm. It began to smolder from a quickly rising heat, the glove adorned on his arm smoking and falling apart.
Ezekiel gritted his teeth, wincing and trying to shake free. Between the agonizing pain he managed to tell the following: “Bastard! No better than Ostellos! For this!” Upon hearing the insult, the ethereal engineer snarled and applied more pressure to his grip.
“Take back what you said you…you…snide noble ass, fae-loving piece of shit.” The fire surrounding Aaron’s arm lit brighter, the flame beginning to cover more of Ezekiel’s arm.
That was enough for Katarin then to react, signal or not. She surged from the wall towards Aaronock, needle in her sword arm, and jumped the inventor’s backside. Aaronock then freed Ezekiel, the rogue reeled back from the force of the energy and was knocked to the ground. As Aaronock continued to struggle to knock Katarin off, she grasped him tightly around his neck. “Screw you!” She cursed through gritted teeth. They continued the fight, Aaron trying to shake her off and Katarin cursing at him, trying to get a good choke hold on him to apply for poison she received earlier. Ezekiel tried to get up but found each time he tried the burns he suffered shot up his side. They had to resolve this soon, lights were beginning to turn on, and nosy neighbors would crowd the neighborhood. Aaron would blab and there’d be consequences then for failure.
Cream had been at a loss and dazed by the events, constantly opening his mouth to scream but a hoarse pant only coming out instead. However, his bearings had begun to return, and he realized what was going on. The blob jumped forward and attempted to wrap his slime like body around Aaronock’s leg. The distraction did its job and Aaron, while trying to dislodge Cream, found himself at last hit in the arm by the drug. Katarin jumped off, landed on her feet and panting, stretched her body out. It didn’t take long for the poisons to kick in, and it was now Aaron’s turn to curse them all.
“Even you side with them Cream? Why?”
Cream’s eyes puffed up and he frowned, “Because, ever since Ostellos has been back you haven’t been normal. You push everyone away thinking you got all the answers. But you’re being a big dumb brick, you don’t know anything at all!”
Aaron managed a laugh while he began to cough. “Yah, do you think you’d be in a proper state of mind considering what that bastard’s done at this point. So many are dead now cause of my weakness, my
-arrogance-“
“That is hard to argue with,” Katarin stated. She had rushed over to Ezekiel and begun applying medical attention with a white potion and bandages. She whispered to him that he’d be fine, flicked his forehead, and turned right back to the Ethereal Engineer, “But even so, it isn’t your fault this time. Even if I hadn’t stuck you with that needle I’d say you’re in no condition to be anywhere on a battlefield. You should thank this other idiot master rogue right now because he just saved your life.”
“HAH! And probably damned too many others for the effort.”
“Stop being so damned melodramatic Aaron. Shouldn’t have even given you a chance to be nice in the first place, I refuse to the next time.”
But Aaronock hadn’t heard all what Ezekiel had to say, the tall man’s eyes had shut and he breathed with heavy, laborious breaths through his mouth. Others from around the neighborhood had approached. It was Cream who approached the crowd, “Uhm, sorry about this, he’s been sick, and his friends came by to get him to the hospital. They uh, had to go to some extreme measures as you can see here.”
Ezekiel whistled, Katarin flicked his forehead and placed a finger over his lips to get him to hush. Cream continued, “So, um, you guys should go home now, we’ll get his bags and take him right on the double over to Prontera’s hospital so he can get fixed right on up.”
“GODS, thank YOU two for even COMING.” Spoke out an older lady. “He’s been barely sleeping these past weeks, having strange coughing fits and just a terrible hunching mess when on his daily walks. He’s a pretty young man, shouldn’t be allowed to suffer so. May Odin smile upon your generosity and patience.” Some others gave similar words as they returned to their homes. One of the mages stopped by and helped to get the inventor onto a stretcher then conjured it into the air to float and follow upon a simple word command.
Once everyone left, Cream bounced back over to the rogue duo. “BAM, learned a page from your book there, huh Zeke?”
“Got to admit, you did alright there.” A grin formed from ear to ear on Zeke. “I owe you quite a lot of candy for assessing that situation and coming to a proper judgement, and on top of that, making such a great save for the two of us.”
Katarin cleared her throat, “Ahem, I should tell you not to bother with fighting in a few days too, but that I know is useless. Get a healer to fix up what they can, tip ‘em right and try to avoid using your shield arm too much for awhile, you dolt.”
He nodded, it was pointless to argue when she began to act so bossy. The potion had begun to numb the marks made by Aaronock’s grip, which finally allowed him to stand. At least his gloves took most of the damage instead of his arm. “Before we leave, Cream, help me gather any research necessities this jerk on the stretcher might hide in case of the worst. Oh, and of course some travel necessities. I shall pay for his little hospital visit, least I can do considering circumstances.”
“Aye aye cap’n! You got it!~” He cooed and hopped with surprising momentum to do exactly as requested inside the home. It took a while due to the piles of items that had gathered around the home, but manage it they did. The three reached Prontera’s hospital before early morning’s sunrise. There wasn’t much time for the two of them to prepare for the coming battle in Geffen, but they would have to make the most of it.
Cream had been at a loss and dazed by the events, constantly opening his mouth to scream but a hoarse pant only coming out instead. However, his bearings had begun to return, and he realized what was going on. The blob jumped forward and attempted to wrap his slime like body around Aaronock’s leg. The distraction did its job and Aaron, while trying to dislodge Cream, found himself at last hit in the arm by the drug. Katarin jumped off, landed on her feet and panting, stretched her body out. It didn’t take long for the poisons to kick in, and it was now Aaron’s turn to curse them all.
“Even you side with them Cream? Why?”
Cream’s eyes puffed up and he frowned, “Because, ever since Ostellos has been back you haven’t been normal. You push everyone away thinking you got all the answers. But you’re being a big dumb brick, you don’t know anything at all!”
Aaron managed a laugh while he began to cough. “Yah, do you think you’d be in a proper state of mind considering what that bastard’s done at this point. So many are dead now cause of my weakness, my
-arrogance-“
“That is hard to argue with,” Katarin stated. She had rushed over to Ezekiel and begun applying medical attention with a white potion and bandages. She whispered to him that he’d be fine, flicked his forehead, and turned right back to the Ethereal Engineer, “But even so, it isn’t your fault this time. Even if I hadn’t stuck you with that needle I’d say you’re in no condition to be anywhere on a battlefield. You should thank this other idiot master rogue right now because he just saved your life.”
“HAH! And probably damned too many others for the effort.”
“Stop being so damned melodramatic Aaron. Shouldn’t have even given you a chance to be nice in the first place, I refuse to the next time.”
But Aaronock hadn’t heard all what Ezekiel had to say, the tall man’s eyes had shut and he breathed with heavy, laborious breaths through his mouth. Others from around the neighborhood had approached. It was Cream who approached the crowd, “Uhm, sorry about this, he’s been sick, and his friends came by to get him to the hospital. They uh, had to go to some extreme measures as you can see here.”
Ezekiel whistled, Katarin flicked his forehead and placed a finger over his lips to get him to hush. Cream continued, “So, um, you guys should go home now, we’ll get his bags and take him right on the double over to Prontera’s hospital so he can get fixed right on up.”
“GODS, thank YOU two for even COMING.” Spoke out an older lady. “He’s been barely sleeping these past weeks, having strange coughing fits and just a terrible hunching mess when on his daily walks. He’s a pretty young man, shouldn’t be allowed to suffer so. May Odin smile upon your generosity and patience.” Some others gave similar words as they returned to their homes. One of the mages stopped by and helped to get the inventor onto a stretcher then conjured it into the air to float and follow upon a simple word command.
Once everyone left, Cream bounced back over to the rogue duo. “BAM, learned a page from your book there, huh Zeke?”
“Got to admit, you did alright there.” A grin formed from ear to ear on Zeke. “I owe you quite a lot of candy for assessing that situation and coming to a proper judgement, and on top of that, making such a great save for the two of us.”
Katarin cleared her throat, “Ahem, I should tell you not to bother with fighting in a few days too, but that I know is useless. Get a healer to fix up what they can, tip ‘em right and try to avoid using your shield arm too much for awhile, you dolt.”
He nodded, it was pointless to argue when she began to act so bossy. The potion had begun to numb the marks made by Aaronock’s grip, which finally allowed him to stand. At least his gloves took most of the damage instead of his arm. “Before we leave, Cream, help me gather any research necessities this jerk on the stretcher might hide in case of the worst. Oh, and of course some travel necessities. I shall pay for his little hospital visit, least I can do considering circumstances.”
“Aye aye cap’n! You got it!~” He cooed and hopped with surprising momentum to do exactly as requested inside the home. It took a while due to the piles of items that had gathered around the home, but manage it they did. The three reached Prontera’s hospital before early morning’s sunrise. There wasn’t much time for the two of them to prepare for the coming battle in Geffen, but they would have to make the most of it.
So... after joining the Mystra’s castle investigation party, and considering that I have some free time atm, I’ve decided to finally start RP-ing. Of course I’m a newbie on this sort of thing, so you’ll probably see a boring story or bad character development along the way, but I assure you I’m doing my best to not let that happen. :3
I’m trying my best to fit the stories into heRO’s RP arc, but since I’ve just started doing this thing very recently, it might only fit for Of Fiends and Shadows for now. (Of course, feel free to PM me if something I write might contradict what happened in the previous arcs. )
OOC: This is an ongoing story that's a work in progress. More updates to come in the near future as inspiration and time to write cross paths.
-----
The clanking of metal could be heard in the far reaches of a workshop in Geffen. A man was huddled over against one side of the room at his oaken work desk. Strewn about the room were various other projects at different steps. In one corner, the materials for several endowment scrolls were astray everywhere in an impossible pile. That order was due soon, but the man had no heart to do it in the immediate moment. It was going to be one of those last minute things, where he surely would be crafting the spells upon the scrolls as he rushed to the client’s drop-off point. As for the other items in the room, they no longer needed constant innovation, but they were invaluable since they provided quite a steady income for his livelihood. As an inventor, and engineer, he tinkered often, but his most recent idea had hit a bit of a snag when field tested earlier in the week.
With a wrench in hand, he freed the last few nuts and bolts from a section of his currently out of commission project. Behind him, on the floor, was the man’s assistant, an orange, gelatinous, blob-like creature who currently enjoyed a plate of homemade cucumber salad instead of being forced to attend to his usual duties. The inventor, with brown leather gloved hands finally at last removed the plate and began tapping various pieces inside. From the crystals that casted the necessary spells, to the scrolls with their complex incantations, and at last, to the machinery that held everything together, none of it was left untouched. He guided his own simple magicks through his wrench to spot any anomalies. He then huffed, dissatisfied to not have a proper diagnosis, as everything appeared to be in working order.
“Seems our field test with my Mass Dispel Machine did not go according to plan. But not for the reasons you’d think.”
The little monstrous creature in the other side of the room then spoke, “Huh, so you mean all those spell scrolls were written correctly this time?” He then licked one of the tomatoes in the salad into his mouth.
The man nodded his displeasure at the current situation, “Mmmhm, so it appears. Also, based on the condition of the the crystal fragments, they were pulsating correctly to cast the dispersion spell.”
Cream then puffed, “But, Aaronock, something clearly went awry. You saw the smoke that started coming from the machine. It was overheating! That doesn’t happen without a reason. I won on our bet. It screwed up just like I thought it would.”
As to the reference of their earlier bet, Aaron shook his finger at the side towards his assistant. They agreed to give him a week’s worth of proper food since his experiment wasn’t a complete failure. At least today Aaron had little need of using the Drops as a garbage disposal. “Tsk tsk. Cream, you only half won. The experiment did sort of work as I proposed it should. It managed to disperse some of the energies on the bridge last Monday as Muspelheim. But then —“
“Do I haveta repeat myself?” He hopped up, the chewed tomato he swallowed earlier drooped into the middle of his gelatinous body, where the rest of the salad resided. “Your machine had a big black cloud of smoke come out of it. It didn’t fully do what you want. You tried. You failed. The end!”
“There are no failures when it comes to science and magic! One only needs to know what to modify, and with a mastery for the rules of each, you essentially are a god~”
Cream rolled his eyes, too aware it was useless to try crushing a tiny piece of the self-proclaimed ‘Ethereal Engineer’s’ ego. The man’s persistence did actually capture Cream’s admiration at times, but would never admit as much as he chomped into another piece of the treat laid in front of him. Instead, he chose to pose inquiries about a related subject instead, “Hey, before you get all caught up in work again – Why did you bother to even make something like your ‘Bifrost Project?’ Why worry about dispelling the Muspelheim Bridge now?”
“Because the one person with the power to deal with the problem chose not to fix it. Now that masterful she-wizard is dead. And pretty much anyone else relevant to the problem is also dead, and that’s for the best.”
“You mean Ostellos and Eudoxie right?” He paused after his latest question, and then piped up immediately after, “And hey! you didn’t answer my other thing about your silly little rainbow bridge project! Grrrr…absent minded geek.” The little creature hopped in annoyance at the inventor.
Aaron had his pointer finger and thumb slung across his chin, and tapping the wrench now on the workbench. He heard Cream’s questions, and even his grievances for failing to answer, but chose to ignore it for the problem immediately in front of him with his newest project. The dull, repetitive noises from the wrench to the wooden work bench helped him to process the potential fixes in front of him. The action came with an additional bonus of muffling out the continuous complaints that came from the monster’s nasally pitched voice from the other side of the room.
Many forms of dispersion magicks had been tested, and the best one already chosen. That was how he arrived at utilizing the Light Crystal Fragments to begin with. They were chosen for their glassy, clear texture, a reminder of what it meant to dispel any magic, to return it to its original state. The eye pattern formed in every crystal’s center also intrigued the engineer, because to him, it was as if each of the pieces could envision where best to cast each occurrence of his written spell. The issue was clearly not there with the crystal fragments. He considered how Muspelheim’s Bridge gathered quite a lot of spiritual energy in an area, and how he may have underestimated that force. To store the gathered energies, he’d need something of an opposite to the Light Crystal Fragments, it would want to absorb energies, and not have them called upon till requested.
“Dark Crystal Fragments!” Aaronock proclaimed, and raised both arms high, and even with his wrench still in his right hand. The solution came so naturally, so spontaneously, he half wondered a moment if the gods were whispering in his ear. The notion dropped just as quickly as it was formed, because he knew they were far too fickle to be concerned much about him these days. Besides, he did not want to attribute anything to them because that would mean he’d owe them a debt, the worst place to be with such cosmic beings.
“Really? That’s it? Don’t skimp on the details, you great genius you.” Cream stuck his tongue out at the engineer.
Aaron would oblige Cream with by beginning with an excited statement, “I will need to rebuild the whole thing from the ground up, but the finished product will be better than ever!”
Then, another tonal shift to calm himself to a more down-to-earth, list-like voice, “First to reinforce the metals encasing this machine with Bradium instead of Elunium. This thing is going to be teeming constantly with magic, so may as well armor this thing with the best materials against that. I’ll need to write up a new spell scroll as well so those Black Crystal Fragments know how to play their role. Then, we’ll test this guy out again, and I bet it’ll go far smoother.”
Cream couldn’t place it, but he felt that Aaronock was right. And as a Drops, he trusted that his own gut instincts were never really wrong. For others of his kind, a simple misunderstanding could lead to an immediate death. Shivering momentarily, he recalled a situation where he smelled the scent of a ‘Second Aaronock’ a few weeks earlier during a walk around Prontera. Another attempt at prodding the inventor to answer his earlier inquiry felt all too pressing. At last he chimed, “Cause that’s all going to take a few days, why don’t you tell me all about that stuff surrounding Muspelheim. Besides, it's not like you to not want to blabber about yourself all day long.”
This time the man would consider the creature’s request. “I only never told you before because your attention span for such tales is far too small. To give you a full account regarding Muspelheim… that would require me to go further back than just a few years ago. I’d have to go much further back, to when I was a young man, freshly graduated as a sage…”
Cream puffed his cheeks out hearing Aaron’s barbs, “Fine, I’ll prove to you that I can listen really really really really well. Just try me now!”
The inventor chuckled, and began to recall in his mind a host of events related to his rise as the self-proclaimed ‘Ethereal Engineer.’. At the time, when he first became an adult, he was so full of dreams, hopes, and desires. But the cruelty of the world would bear upon him soon enough, and it would weather his idealism to near nothingness. He sighed, thankful for his current position, but always feeling the weight of his past mistakes. “Very well Cream, but if I feel you aren’t paying attention at any point in the tales I weave…” He went over to another desk on another side of the room to begin drafting a blueprint for a new version of his project. “You may find that my kindness to make such treats as your cucumber salad to be lacking. Wouldn’t want that now, would we?” He finished with a wide grin and strewing pencils from a container across the new work space.
Cream, you only half won. The experiment did sort of work as I proposed it should. It managed to disperse some of the energies on the bridge last Monday as Muspelheim. But then —“
“Do I haveta repeat myself?” He hopped up, the chewed tomato he swallowed earlier drooped into the middle of his gelatinous body, where the rest of the salad resided. “Your machine had a big black cloud of smoke come out of it. It didn’t fully do what you want. You tried. You failed. The end!”
“There are no failures when it comes to science and magic! One only needs to know what to modify, and with a mastery for the rules of each, you essentially are a god~”
Cream rolled his eyes, too aware it was useless to try crushing a tiny piece of the self-proclaimed ‘Ethereal Engineer’s’ ego. The man’s persistence did actually capture Cream’s admiration at times, but would never admit as much as he chomped into another piece of the treat laid in front of him. Instead, he chose to pose inquiries about a related subject instead, “Hey, before you get all caught up in work again – Why did you bother to even make something like your ‘Bifrost Project?’ Why worry about dispelling the Muspelheim Bridge now?”
“Because the one person with the power to deal with the problem chose not to fix it. Now that masterful she-wizard is dead. And pretty much anyone else relevant to the problem is also dead, and that’s for the best.”
“You mean Ostellos and Eudoxie right?” He paused after his latest question, and then piped up immediately after, “And hey! you didn’t answer my other thing about your silly little rainbow bridge project! Grrrr…absent minded geek.” The little creature hopped in annoyance at the inventor.
Aaron had his pointer finger and thumb slung across his chin, and tapping the wrench now on the workbench. He heard Cream’s questions, and even his grievances for failing to answer, but chose to ignore it for the problem immediately in front of him with his newest project. The dull, repetitive noises from the wrench to the wooden work bench helped him to process the potential fixes in front of him. The action came with an additional bonus of muffling out the continuous complaints that came from the monster’s nasally pitched voice from the other side of the room.
Many forms of dispersion magicks had been tested, and the best one already chosen. That was how he arrived at utilizing the Light Crystal Fragments to begin with. They were chosen for their glassy, clear texture, a reminder of what it meant to dispel any magic, to return it to its original state. The eye pattern formed in every crystal’s center also intrigued the engineer, because to him, it was as if each of the pieces could envision where best to cast each occurrence of his written spell. The issue was clearly not there with the crystal fragments. He considered how Muspelheim’s Bridge gathered quite a lot of spiritual energy in an area, and how he may have underestimated that force. To store the gathered energies, he’d need something of an opposite to the Light Crystal Fragments, it would want to absorb energies, and not have them called upon till requested.
“Dark Crystal Fragments!” Aaronock proclaimed, and raised both arms high, and even with his wrench still in his right hand. The solution came so naturally, so spontaneously, he half wondered a moment if the gods were whispering in his ear. The notion dropped just as quickly as it was formed, because he knew they were far too fickle to be concerned much about him these days. Besides, he did not want to attribute anything to them because that would mean he’d owe them a debt, the worst place to be with such cosmic beings.
“Really? That’s it? Don’t skimp on the details, you great genius you.” Cream stuck his tongue out at the engineer.
Aaron would oblige Cream with by beginning with an excited statement, “I will need to rebuild the whole thing from the ground up, but the finished product will be better than ever!”
Then, another tonal shift to calm himself to a more down-to-earth, list-like voice, “First to reinforce the metals encasing this machine with Bradium instead of Elunium. This thing is going to be teeming constantly with magic, so may as well armor this thing with the best materials against that. I’ll need to write up a new spell scroll as well so those Black Crystal Fragments know how to play their role. Then, we’ll test this guy out again, and I bet it’ll go far smoother.”
Cream couldn’t place it, but he felt that Aaronock was right. And as a Drops, he trusted that his own gut instincts were never really wrong. For others of his kind, a simple misunderstanding could lead to an immediate death. Shivering momentarily, he recalled a situation where he smelled the scent of a ‘Second Aaronock’ a few weeks earlier during a walk around Prontera. Another attempt at prodding the inventor to answer his earlier inquiry felt all too pressing. At last he chimed, “Cause that’s all going to take a few days, why don’t you tell me all about that stuff surrounding Muspelheim. Besides, it's not like you to not want to blabber about yourself all day long.”
This time the man would consider the creature’s request. “I only never told you before because your attention span for such tales is far too small. To give you a full account regarding Muspelheim… that would require me to go further back than just a few years ago. I’d have to go much further back, to when I was a young man, freshly graduated as a sage…”
Cream puffed his cheeks out hearing Aaron’s barbs, “Fine, I’ll prove to you that I can listen really really really really well. Just try me now!”
The inventor chuckled, and began to recall in his mind a host of events related to his rise as the self-proclaimed ‘Ethereal Engineer.’. At the time, when he first became an adult, he was so full of dreams, hopes, and desires. But the cruelty of the world would bear upon him soon enough, and it would weather his idealism to near nothingness. He sighed, thankful for his current position, but always feeling the weight of his past mistakes. “Very well Cream, but if I feel you aren’t paying attention at any point in the tales I weave…” He went over to another desk on another side of the room to begin drafting a blueprint for a new version of his project. “You may find that my kindness to make such treats as your cucumber salad to be lacking. Wouldn’t want that now, would we?” He finished with a wide grin and strewing pencils from a container across the new work space.
A collection of stories written to respond to various parts of the heRO Roleplay/Server story. I'll do my best to document where the posts exist on the forums if I have written things in other threads and such, but please don't expect me to dig through all the topics that I've posted in to find these stories. At least, not immediately. I might do it late at night or when I'm bored.
Some of the linked topics contain a number other stories, and in some cases, the ones I've posted build upon the words of someone else, or vice versa. I highly suggest reading through these topics to understand various character motivations.
No promises on length. These could be very short (~600 words), or very long (3k++ words). If you do read through all of the words, I thank you. It really means a lot.
Now, let's get onto the stories!
OOC: Katarin is a fake character I made up to play this story out.
You may also take this time to write your own stories involving your character(s) as it pertains to the current heRO storyline.
-----
The twenty-six year Ezekiel Stalker old stood in front of a mirror. His hair decided to act more disagreeable with him than usual today. He had tied the knot as usual at the bottom of his mid-back length hair, but the bangs decided to splay and split across both his eyes. He puffed his cheeks and blew at them in frustration. This would certainly put a damper on making a good appearance for when his visitor arrived. Normally this wouldn't matter much to the man, but he liked looking professional for fellow Rogue's Guild members.
Especially ones that would help him practice proper manners.
Not that he didn’t know about proper manners, he learned about, and used daily proper speech patterns some long ago time as a small child. “Just, how did that saying go?” he pondered a moment, “Ah yes, you either use it, or lose it.”
He had to remind himself why he'd bother to go through all this work to learn something that didn’t seem that important so long ago. It really came down to his client. Someone who held what seemed like mighty powers wanted him to find a way to subdue a most rambunctious fairy. The fairy called herself “Lucretia.” She had already a month earlier went and run amok summoning plants and insects on a Fairy Auction. Spewing out nonsense about how she’d take the world back to a state that didn’t have humans living in it.
The employer had left the details of the task vague, and left Ezekiel with the impression he could use any means available to subdue the fairy and her plans. Why his current employer would want his assistance on this task went beyond his head. He didn't ask questions about his client’s intentions. Ezekiel never asked unless it could break a rule from his personal moral code. And once he took a job, he made sure he'd do what it take to complete it to a proper, successful conclusion.
And just after taking the job, that fairy Lucretia coincidentally began an attempt to conquer Payon. The attack echoed many similarities to the one previously seen in Fairy Land about a month prior. She made headway to the Payon Castle, to find some sort of treasure. However, he struck a path hastily to her in the Payon throne room. A few moments between them made hardly any dents in her violent psyche. Instead, she conjured more monsters to at his face. He blamed himself for this failure to assuade her, and now had to rectify it.
A knock came to the door at that very moment as he finished his thoughts. He'd have to forgive his unruly hair, and just push the bangs behind his ears. A few more adjustments on his jacket and pants in front of the mirror, he called out to her, "Please come on in Katarin."
She let herself through.
"Ha ha, nice try Ezekiel, but proper decorum would require you to actually remove yourself from the mirror long enough to open the door for a lady of my status." She made her way to him and gave a flick at the back of his head. A smile shined towards the reflection before the both of them as she saw her new student’s face turn to a scowl.
"Now, now, you called for me. Taken time out of my own busy schedule just to help you practice proper conduct with people." A compliant Ezekiel to her, always equated to the most interesting one. He knew how to act professional in his work, but outside of the actual job, everyone at the guild knew how little civility he showed. Him coming to this realization on his own would mean too much fun for her. She'd milk these next few days to see him wince and fail miserably at this task with glee.
And Ezekiel had already failed right at the beginning.
Katarin took his hand, and moved him from the mirror to the table right behind them. Ezekiel managed to take charge and pushed one of the wooden chairs out for her. She kept a straight face now, and sat herself down. He took a place in the chair opposite from her. The female stalker placed her hands on the table, and crossed her hands, then gestured to her student to do the same. Her back went straight, and then he followed.
Nodding, she found herself pleased, and ready to finally begin. Practicing for hours seemed futile. He had figured out for the most part when to use a 'please' or a 'thank you,' but always received a flick at his fingers for missing to state ‘yes ma'am’ and ‘sir.’ His voice the whole time sounded mechanical. Could he not at least fake some sort of goodwill with her? The day nearly came to a close with no fix to the robotic voice problem. Until near the end of the lesson, Ezekiel spoke out of turn while they played out a scene where she gave him her coat.
"Oh great and mighty teacher, I am at a loss! I do not know how to play honest with beautiful words," Ezekiel’s voice quivered with desperation. She didn't know why he wanted these lessons, simply that he asked for them. Her continuous flicks to his still crossed hands on the table hadn't helped alter his speech patterns. He tried so hard to not growl or act unpleasant every time, but the hilarity of her tactics had already begun to wane. What work did he have in mind that required him to face her torture? She truly began to feel sorry for him, especially with the sudden change of tonality with his speech patterns. But...what he just said actually had an inflection of sincerity. She continued to just give a cold harsh stare. She'd break him and see a true moment of candor from him yet.
A few moments of silence occurred between them, and a pout crossed her pupil's face. Finally he undid his crossed hands, and propped them on the table to pull himself from his chair. A bow came from his head. "I'm sorry teacher, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. You, of all fellow Rogue's Guild members, know how rarely I turn to any of you for personal help. Desperation pursues me, if I don't learn how to do this properly, it could mean failure of a job..."
She held up her hand to cut him off. No need to hear anything further. Katarin heard exactly what she had looked for all along from these lessons today.
A deep breath came from her chest, "You pass today Zeke, just next time, no need to bang your hands on the table." The man's jaw dropped. He still wanted an explanation, and Katarin would finally throw him a bone. "You need to share more sincerity. You already know how to act professional while doing the actual work. Now you need to back your words with an inflection of caring instead of venom to your clients and friends too. In other words, drop the stupid tough guy act for all of us every now and then!”
The point would have almost gone over his head had he not already been berated on this exact subject the previous night by Catherine (Cutty) McWren. A new, personal challenge stood before him. How best to speak your truest feelings when he didn’t want to? His client didn't kid when telling him he'd be tested to his limits to stop Lucretia. However, he staked his own reputation on succeeding, and he wouldn't let this bit tie him down forever.
Katarin brought him back from his thoughts one final time while giving him a small pat on the top of his head. "We've had enough practice today. Tomorrow, let's get ourselves some tea, and enjoy some more proper conversation and practice those table manners." She walked herself to the door, this time giving a signal that she could handle the door alone without facing disciplinary action.
He took a sidestep back to the mirror, taking a long moment to look at himself. His bangs had gone astray once again. A frown almost formed on his lips, but the man blew it out last second. Instead, the most encouraging smile he could muster crossed his face. A Tuesday meeting with Cynbel would arrive sooner than expected. His own current situation at hand certainly lacked dull moments in between at least.
OOC: Katarin is a fake character I made up to play this story out.
You may also take this time to write your own stories involving your character(s) as it pertains to the current heRO storyline.
-----
The twenty-six year Ezekiel Stalker old stood in front of a mirror. His hair decided to act more disagreeable with him than usual today. He had tied the knot as usual at the bottom of his mid-back length hair, but the bangs decided to splay and split across both his eyes. He puffed his cheeks and blew at them in frustration. This would certainly put a damper on making a good appearance for when his visitor arrived. Normally this wouldn't matter much to the man, but he liked looking professional for fellow Rogue's Guild members.
Especially ones that would help him practice proper manners.
Not that he didn’t know about proper manners, he learned about, and used daily proper speech patterns some long ago time as a small child. “Just, how did that saying go?” he pondered a moment, “Ah yes, you either use it, or lose it.”
He had to remind himself why he'd bother to go through all this work to learn something that didn’t seem that important so long ago. It really came down to his client. Someone who held what seemed like mighty powers wanted him to find a way to subdue a most rambunctious fairy. The fairy called herself “Lucretia.” She had already a month earlier went and run amok summoning plants and insects on a Fairy Auction. Spewing out nonsense about how she’d take the world back to a state that didn’t have humans living in it.
The employer had left the details of the task vague, and left Ezekiel with the impression he could use any means available to subdue the fairy and her plans. Why his current employer would want his assistance on this task went beyond his head. He didn't ask questions about his client’s intentions. Ezekiel never asked unless it could break a rule from his personal moral code. And once he took a job, he made sure he'd do what it take to complete it to a proper, successful conclusion.
And just after taking the job, that fairy Lucretia coincidentally began an attempt to conquer Payon. The attack echoed many similarities to the one previously seen in Fairy Land about a month prior. She made headway to the Payon Castle, to find some sort of treasure. However, he struck a path hastily to her in the Payon throne room. A few moments between them made hardly any dents in her violent psyche. Instead, she conjured more monsters to at his face. He blamed himself for this failure to assuade her, and now had to rectify it.
A knock came to the door at that very moment as he finished his thoughts. He'd have to forgive his unruly hair, and just push the bangs behind his ears. A few more adjustments on his jacket and pants in front of the mirror, he called out to her, "Please come on in Katarin."
She let herself through.
"Ha ha, nice try Ezekiel, but proper decorum would require you to actually remove yourself from the mirror long enough to open the door for a lady of my status." She made her way to him and gave a flick at the back of his head. A smile shined towards the reflection before the both of them as she saw her new student’s face turn to a scowl.
"Now, now, you called for me. Taken time out of my own busy schedule just to help you practice proper conduct with people." A compliant Ezekiel to her, always equated to the most interesting one. He knew how to act professional in his work, but outside of the actual job, everyone at the guild knew how little civility he showed. Him coming to this realization on his own would mean too much fun for her. She'd milk these next few days to see him wince and fail miserably at this task with glee.
And Ezekiel had already failed right at the beginning.
Katarin took his hand, and moved him from the mirror to the table right behind them. Ezekiel managed to take charge and pushed one of the wooden chairs out for her. She kept a straight face now, and sat herself down. He took a place in the chair opposite from her. The female stalker placed her hands on the table, and crossed her hands, then gestured to her student to do the same. Her back went straight, and then he followed.
Nodding, she found herself pleased, and ready to finally begin. Practicing for hours seemed futile. He had figured out for the most part when to use a 'please' or a 'thank you,' but always received a flick at his fingers for missing to state ‘yes ma'am’ and ‘sir.’ His voice the whole time sounded mechanical. Could he not at least fake some sort of goodwill with her? The day nearly came to a close with no fix to the robotic voice problem. Until near the end of the lesson, Ezekiel spoke out of turn while they played out a scene where she gave him her coat.
"Oh great and mighty teacher, I am at a loss! I do not know how to play honest with beautiful words," Ezekiel’s voice quivered with desperation. "Indy, let's not talk about that. Even if I did become one, my reason to become one has already..."
As I look at Indy in a serious look, she looked away as she turned her back towards me.
"Atleast remember your promised you idiot."
"..."
As Indy's footstep vanished, I started to calm myself down as I raised my hand towards the bright sun. The warmth surge towards my hand as I recall the feeling of wielding a sword.
"A swordsman huh... Ithiel... What would you have done if you've seen me now..."
Late last night, a female Rogue was found incapacitated inside the base of the Yggdrasil Tree. The assailants, a pair of Lords (Orc Lord and Evil Snake Lord), were found by the victim and guildmates that took to her support in resuscitating her as well as dispatching the lingering threats.
A reporter was called in to interview the young lady; the interviewee agreed but asked to be identified by an alias of "Claire", in order to avoid confusion between herself and another person who appears to share her character's real name.
Interviewer: "So I understand your discovery was quite the shock to you. Would you mind telling us what you were doing there?"
Claire: "Ah, it was!! Uhm.. so, I was finding my way through the.. what was it... Umbala Dungeon? I've never been through there, but the person guiding me in my mind* was there many times before, so I knew where to go. And when I got to the end, there was this huuuuuuge tree! And waterfalls and flowers, it was beautiful!"
[*: Editor's note - Probably the person actually playing this character.]
Interviewer: *laughs* "Yes... it's a very nice place. But unfortunately, "that" happened. Did you try to escape, being trained as a Rogue?"
Claire: "Ahaha... er, it was such a surprise to see [the MVP] that my mind blanked... I had some fly wings on me, but I didn't think about it. By the time my guide got my attention back, the archers already... ..."
Interviewer: "But then your new friends came to your rescue?"
Claire: "Yes, they did!" They got my signal for help at the last second and came right over. Zan and ... I feel bad for not remembering the name she wanted me to use, but she went by Okaeri or Mayushi? They had some trouble, but they got rid of Orc Lord for me! We also found... his name was, Evil Snake Lord? But but, Mayushi changed into her Sniper form and totally destroyed it! That was so cool!!"
---
As the people of Rune-Midgard(HeRO) would know, Mayushi leads the guild Stop Do The Lazy, a very active guild on the server that also has an established War of Emperium sister Guild, Orion. "Zan" likely refers to Zanaruka, a High Priest within the guild that also administrates both it and Orion. The Rogue, Aoi "Claire" Kodoku, was recruited last night shortly before the incident occurred.
We ask that others who choose to venture the long way through to Niflheim remain wary of any further abnormal threats that might still be present in the Yggdrasil Tree, as we've unconfirmed at this time whether there are any remaining MVPs to be found. If possible, please make use of the SaveNPC system for direct access to all unlocked content, and report any and all abnormal presence/movement of monsters to the proper authorities.
Upon contacting the GM Service Division of the HeRO shard, they quickly responded that they would "look deeper into this," noting that the ritual summoning variant of the "Focus Pocus" [sic] metaspell was the likely cause of this abnormal presence. The respective MVPs could not be reached for comment.
Attention however should be called upon the coincidence that both MVPs found were Lords of their respective locales. Is there something more sinister at work than mere foul play? Are the monster legions of the world plotting something in collaboration, or are they merely being strung along like puppets on string by someone's plot?
What could this portend...?
The Bounty hunter had misses his mark again, that elusive Metal mage dubbed the Warlock in far the far off land of Aresden had eluded him again. He sat on the boat a day out of docking at Alberta Harbor wondering if he would be able to pick up the warlock's trail again.
In a box at his side was the prisoners mask, a tool given to him by the Aresden high council to pacify the warlock when he was captured. The bounty hunter had heard of these masks but had never seen them in person. He was warned not to open the box until he had his prey subdued, but curiosity got the better of him. Opening the box he could clearly see the X shaped eyes and the tooth filled grin carved into the white bone of the mask. With out understanding why he did it he pulled the mask out of the box. The back of the mask was a solid band of dried flesh, that looked worn and dry. Looking further at the back of the mask the bounty hunter found what looked to be small hooks protruding from the area around the eyes and a block that looked to be bitten on where the mouth would be. He started to hear a strange whispering voice begging him to put on the mask, it was at this point he slammed it back into the box. Putting the box under his bunk he tried to get some sleep.
His Dreams were haunted with the last time he faced his quarry, the warlock had gotten himself in control of a crew of Pirates. That crew was a strange one for the Midnight sea, they would go where few crews would dare, the dead Isles. The stories told of pirates that had run afoul of a big black ghost ship on the waters, the ships would be stripped of all crew except one who would limp the ships to shore so they could tale the tale of what had happened. The leads the bounty hunter had found had stated before the warlock was a captain he had survived thirteen encounters with that ghost ship being the only one left alive each time. The warlock had made a crew of the survivors of those attacks to hunt the ghost ship near its native waters. It was witnessed by the bounty hunter the day the crew of that hunter ship had mutinied against their captain and set him adrift on the west bound currents. The bounty hunter had gotten aboard the warlock's crew, and had was about to confront the warlock in his quarters when the mutiny happened.
The bounty hunter until that day did not know his quarry was a metal mage, one who bent armor and steel to his will, until that fight. He watched the warlock's crew turn on him and saw half the crew taken down meaninglessly with out remorse. It was a team of six of his crew that had cornered him with broom handles and old wooden sticks that subdued him. The bounty hunter knowing he was newest on the crew saw fit to just watch and learn what was to happen to his quarry. They loaded him in a raft with out a paddle and three days food and set him on the west current. Less then a quarter day afterward the Black ship fell on the mutinous crew. The bounty hunter was captured and made to watch while the undead crew of the black ship stripped the flesh off of every crew member, then ordered their rotting carcasses on to the black ship. What could be assumed to be the dread captain then unlocked the bounty hunters chains and pointed to the west. Before the bounty hunter could find his balance the black ship was gone. He guessed he was given reprieve to keep hunting his own prey.
Upon hitting the west most island of the Midnight Sea the bounty hunter booked passage to the lands further west. That is where the man in armor with the haunted eyes was heading, which must have been the warlock.
The bounty hunter had awoke to the sound of bones crackling, right above his face was the inside of the mask he had returned to the box, it was balanced on four long connections of bone. Before he could react the mask slammed itself down on his face, he felt the strap constrict to the back of his head, the hooks dig into his eyes forcing them forever open.as the mask shifted shape to fit his head the bounty hunter realized he was now a prisoner in his own body.
The thing that use to be a bounty hunter realized it had the wrong prey, but this body would do for now. It knew who and what it was suppose to hunt but the compelling force that would normally guide it was out of reach. It would find its target soon enough, but now was time for having some fun....
((There you guys go the first of many short background stories to my set of characters, I will name them as I go but then I am still getting my gamer rig together (not going to play on my kiddo's computers where I am typing this from). ))
